Kathleen Cowan, who was called Go Ga-ryeon, was born in Ireland. She came to Korea as a nursing missionary for the British World Vision.
At that time, Korea had numerous war orphans due to the Korean War. Accordingly, Dongsan Christian Hospital established a children's hospital with support for the purpose of health treatment of orphanage children. The children were treated free of charge here.
Cowan served as a nurse at a children's hospital and helped with the orphanage business. In addition, an orphanage patrol group was organized for children in orphanages who could not be treated after being hospitalized in children's hospitals, and toured nearby orphanages, including Daegu, to provide medical treatment and volunteer activities for more than 10 years.
The children, helped by Cowan, recalled her like this. "She was a missionary who healed, taught, and embraced the body, mind, and soul as an angel in white to Korean war orphans".
